Francisco CortheyKomponist
Francisco Corthey is an Argentinian composer and performer currently based in the United States. His compositional practice unfolds through two distinct yet complementary approaches: one engages with the materiality of non-musical sources such as words, drawings, and objects, while the other pursues a deeply personal, intuitive interpretation of concepts and ideas—deliberately detached from scientific or rational rigor. He is currently completing a PhD in Composition at SUNY Buffalo under the supervision of Ming Tsao. He holds a Master’s degree in Composition from Georgia Southern University, where he studied with Martin Gendelman and John Thompson, and an International Diploma from the
University of Bergen (Norway), where he studied with Dániel Péter Biró. Beyond academia, Francisco’s musical language has been shaped through collaborations with solo performers such as Sergej Tchirkov, Giacomo Piermatti, and Kyle Hutchins, and through participation in festivals including ilSUONO (Italy), June in Buffalo (USA), Impuls (Austria). He has also attended masterclasses and private lessons with composers such as Chaya Czernowin, Franck Bedrossian, and Pierluigi Billone.
